Medical Staff

Barrett Johnston, MD

Dr. Johnston was born in New Orleans and is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University. He obtained his medical degree at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. His anesthesia residency and pain fellowship were both completed at Harvard’s School of Medicine. Dr. Johnston is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Anesthesiology Pain Medicine Certification.

John Crosby, MD

Dr. Crosby began his career as an anesthesiologist in Northwest Louisiana, but the desire to treat patients on a more personal level led him to pursue a career as a pain management physician. He completed his interventional pain fellowship at Texas Tech University in Lubbock under Dr. Miles Day, an international lecturer and instructor. He also worked with Dr. Gabor Racz, a world-renowned pioneer in the field of interventional pain and a charter member of the World Institute of Pain and the National Pain Foundation. Dr. Crosby offers multiple methods of controlling pain, including ultrasound-guided and fluoroscopically guided procedures, peripheral nerve ablation, and the latest advances in spinal cord neuromodulation/surgical techniques. He is a highly trained, board-certified anesthesiologist at Louisiana Pain Specialists.

What To Expect

Procedures & Surgeries

1Preparation

  • We need to receive your health registration forms prior to your surgery/procedure date. If we don’t receive from you provider, a nurse will contact you prior to your date of service.
  • You will need an up-to-date medical history and physical form. Depending on your health and the procedure, you may need blood tests, EKG or x-rays. Your doctor will advise where you will have this done.
  • A nurse will call you prior to your surgery to review your health history and/or medications you may take or be prescribed.
  • Please do not eat or drink anything as directed by staff the night before surgery.
  • Please arrange for a person over the age of 18 to accompany you home after your procedure/surgery. You will not be allowed to leave alone and unattended.
  • Notify your doctor and us if your medical condition changes or if you are sick.

2The Day Of

  • When you arrive at Capital Surgery Center please check-in at the registration desk to verify personal, escort and insurance information.
  • After checking-in, you will be brought to the pre-op area where a nurse will do a health interview and prepare you for your procedure.
  • Please bring your photo ID, insurance card, and form of payment.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • If you wear contacts, if possible please wear glasses.
  • Please leave all valuables and jewelry at home
  • Prior to your surgery, you will meet with the Anesthesiologist and Doctor performing your surgery or procedure for the opportunity to ask any last-minute questions.

3Post Operation

  • Once you are in stable condition, you will be discharged.
  • It is common to experience sleepiness and dizziness for 12 to 24 hours after your procedure/ surgery.
  • You will receive verbal and written post-op care instructions. Whoever is going to drive you home and make sure you are comfortable in your house must be available to discuss and sign these instructions before you will be allowed to go home.
  • If you experience anything unusual after your surgery, please call your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room.
  • One of our nurses will call you within two days after your surgery to check on you.

4Billing

  • We will submit insurance claims for you. We may request that your deductible and copay amounts are paid on or before your date of surgery.
  • We will bill you any balance due after your insurance has paid or processed your claim.
  • There may be a delay if your insurance company is slow to pay or if we need to re-submit your claim for corrected payment and/or processing.
  • Once you receive your statement, if you will not be able to pay your bill within 90 days please let us know and we will work with you to get a payment plan.
  • Please remember that you will receive multiple bills for your procedure.
